A paddle steamer which was destined to take up its new home in Coleraine has sank while being towed to its new home.

The 96 year old ship, which is in the style of a Mississippi Paddle steamer, sank on Friday west of South Stack Anglesey Wales about 12 miles. This was reported by the BBC.

Named MV Oliver Cromwell and costing the new owners up to £245,00, the ship could not be prevented from sinking even after intervention from the coastguard that afternoon.

Originally built as a barge, the vessel was converted to a floating hotel in1993 which at one time is said to have had 22 en-suit rooms.

It’s unclear from the information what the new owners intentions with the vessel where.
